Introduction

Our client, a global engineering and construction company, is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to oversee the commercial and contractual functions for a large-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) project in the Northern Cape. This is a project-based contract until November 2027.

Duties & Responsibilities

Lead the commercial management function for the project.
Manage project commercial activities including cost control, valuations, contracts, variations, claims and commercial reporting.
Monitor project financial performance against approved budgets and forecasts.
Manage and administer subcontract and supplier agreements.
Review and assess contractual obligations, risks, variations and potential claims.
Manage the preparation, submission and assessment of variations and claims.
Monitor subcontractor commercial performance and contractual compliance.
Prepare commercial reports, forecasts and cost-to-complete information.
Support project progress reporting and commercial decision-making.
Work closely with the Project Manager, Construction, Procurement, Planning and Finance teams.
Identify commercial risks and opportunities and provide recommendations to project leadership.
Ensure appropriate documentation and records are maintained for contractual and commercial matters.
Support contract negotiations and commercial close-out.
Ensure project activities are aligned with contractual requirements and commercial procedures.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance or a related discipline.
Minimum 8–10 years' commercial/contracts experience within EPC, construction, energy, mining or major infrastructure projects.
Proven experience in contract administration, variations, claims, valuations and cost control.
Strong understanding of construction and EPC contracts.
Experience managing subcontractor commercial interfaces.
Strong financial and commercial reporting skills.
Experience on solar PV, BESS, renewable energy or power projects will be advantageous.
Strong analytical, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
Proficiency in relevant commercial/ERP/project management systems.
Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
